Corps Perdu

Lamin Fofana’s Corps Perdu grows from his ongoing work building immersive, multisensory sound worlds shaped by Black Studies. Drawing on texts by W.E.B. Du Bois, Sylvia Wynter, Dionne Brand, Fred Moten, Édouard Glissant, Suzanne Césaire and Aimé Césaire, he turns language into sound with deep historical awareness and a clear feeling for the present.

The album was first explored through collective reading and listening sessions in Paris, Barcelona, Tunis and New York City, with audience voices reading Fofana’s selected texts live. That open, shared process carries into the record, making this published version one powerful moment in a wider dialogue between sound and text.

Across ten tracks, Lamin Fofana extends ideas from Works in Metal, following the arc of Aimé Césaire’s 1950 poetry collection Corps Perdu. Hand-held melodies are worked through dense processing, while rhythms drift away from club weight toward scattering, liquid fragmentation and the metamorphosis of a lost body.
