Nonesuch Records introduces Anthony Roth Costanzo to the label with Countertenor, a companion to his book of the same name from Farrar, Straus and Giroux. Across 10 tracks, Costanzo explores the many shades of falsetto with an ensemble conducted by Dan Schlosberg.
The album includes the world premiere recording of a new song by Osvaldo Golijov, alongside arias by Philip Glass, W.A. Mozart, Antonio Vivaldi, and Claudio Monteverdi. There is also a traditional Hawaiian song, an early Baroque piece by John Dowland, and a Renaissance song by Thomas Morly.
Costanzo also takes on Klaus Nomi-inspired version of John Madera and David White’s You Don’t Own Me, plus Walk Like a Man by Frankie Vallie and the Four Season’s.
