Take one certified Notts legend (Nail Tolliday of Bent and sometime Sleaford Mods collaborator) and one pre-eminent Notts genius (Asa Hudson of Asa) and you get this psychedelic masterpiece and masterclass in finding the golden mean of rough-yet-intricate, spacy soundsapes and genuine pop songcraft! The sound, while very much their own, is somewhat akin to William Onyeabor covering Serge Gainsbourg, Baxter Dury produced by Beck, or a very weird Eels/Flaming Lips collab. On their impressively confounding but wildly enjoyable debut, Champyun Clouds take us on a journey through the lands of lo-fi disco, hip hop beats, swirling robotic harmonies, Pizzicato Five-esque interludes, extremely funky basslines and hazy analogue synths before ending on a more meditative and gentle (but still bonkers) note.
