First album by the cult band since 2010. The Fugs was formed in 1964 by Ed Sanders with Tuli Kupferberg and Kenn Weaver. Until they disbanded the group captured the time spirit and they were alongside Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention the representatives of a quite new mix of political protest, Dadaistic free form performances, poetry – but first rock and roll. The Fugs produced 6 great albums including the masterpieces Tenderness Junction (1968) and It Crawled into my Hand, Honest (1969), before they disbanded in 1969. Ed Sanders pursued a very successful career as a writer and poet. His book about the Manson Family was a huge bestseller. In 1984 Sanders brought The Fugs together again and has recorded several albums since then, including the brilliant No More Slavery from 1986.
Dancing in the Universe was recorded at NRS Studios in Catskill, N.Y.. Four tunes by Tuli Kupferberg were recorded by Scott Petito at Tuli’s loft in New York City in 2005. The Fugs have added instruments and harmony singing to Tuli’s originals.
