Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings released their first full-length recording, Dap Dippin'. Initially, only a few hundred copies were pressed to sell on the road. However, it would take several months and the birth of a new record label before Dap Dippin' would be commercially released on Daptone Records.
This album is not just a collection of unrelated songs, but rather a series of winners performed by a soul revue backing up the dynamic desco alumnus, Sharon Jones. The album showcases her ferocious vocals, but it also highlights the incredible talent of the Dap-Kings. Their cover of Janet Jackson's "What Have You Done for Me Lately?" is a standout track that truly showcases their musical prowess.
