Gotta Hold On / Just Wanna Be Myself

Back to the garage for Uprising’s fourth release, this time with The No-Nâ-Mee’s. This was the band’s only release under their own name. They did previously back a rockabilly singer on his 45, but otherwise they were a local teen outfit, picking up whatever gigs they could get.

Recorded in California in 1966, both sides are frantic, Farfisa-driven pounders that have become reliable dancefloor favourites in today’s clubs. Original promo copies change hands for a few hundred pounds, while stock copies are almost impossible to find.

That scarcity may help explain why The No-Nâ-Mee’s fell out with their producer and label later that same year, then vanished completely, never to be heard from again.
