New to Chess Club Records, Jo Geller, aka jo from school, joins a label with a sharp history of backing homegrown artists early, including Billie Marten and Wolf Alice. It is a fitting home for a songwriter whose work already feels assured, intimate and fully her own.
At 22, jo from school writes graceful, carefully built songs that land with striking emotional weight. There is real character in the spontaneity and imperfection she lets into the music, guided by a clear sense of independence and a commitment to doing things her own way.
She began writing on piano at nine, then taught herself guitar as a teenager during lockdown before joining the Brit School. The EP was largely produced by Rich Cooper, known for work with CMAT and Billie Marten.
