Here's To My Lady

To mark Chesky Records’ 40th anniversary, they’re bringing back Here’s To My Lady, a key early release from 1989. It captures Phil Woods at 57 and right at the top of his game, joined by the superb Tommy Flanagan Trio.

Over a career spanning more than 60 years, Woods built a sound that balanced warmth, lyricism and total bebop command. Here, his alto playing is beautifully matched by pianist Tommy Flanagan, bassist George Mraz, formerly of the Oscar Peterson Trio, and drummer Kenny Washington.

The result is a timeless acoustic jazz session that still feels vivid, open and deeply musical nearly four decades on.
