Grant Green spent more than two decades with Blue Note, but His Majesty King Funk stands apart as his one Verve release, produced by Creed Taylor. Cut in 1965, it catches Green in a rich meeting point between hard bop, R&B, and the emerging pull of soul-jazz.

The session moves from Green’s topical original The Selma March to lasting standards like That Lucky Old Sun and a spacious take on Willow Weep for Me. His clear melodic touch sits beautifully alongside Larry Young, Harold Vick, Ben Dixon, and Candido Camero.

This Verve Acoustic Sounds Series edition is mastered from the original analog tapes by Matthew Lutthans, pressed on 180-gram vinyl at QRP, and housed in a high-quality tip-on gatefold jacket.
