Released in 1980, Hot Box was a big one for Fatback, reaching #7 on the R&B LP chart and #44 on the Billboard album chart. It also sold strongly in the UK, even though the album itself didn’t chart there.
Two of the band’s best-known singles came from it: Gotta Get My Hands On Some (Money) hit #6 on the R&B singles chart, while Backstrokin’ reached #3 in 1980 and also made #41 in the UK chart.
Beyond those funk staples, Hot Box also includes the ballad Come And Get The Love, alongside Street Band, Love Spell and the title track. Remarkably, it has never been reissued on vinyl since its original 1980 release. Ace Records now brings it back in remastered form.
