spoon recorded prolifically for modern and on several occasions between 1947 and 1961. his early recordings show influences that range from louis jordan to billy eckstine, but always enhanced by spoons own unique talent. the sides he cut for modern include some of the very best west coast r&b recordings of the late 1940s and early 1950s. these selections are taken from the original modern acetates and mastertapes, where available (which is almost everywhere). where tapes and acetates were not available, pristine 78s and 45s were pressed into service for optimum audio satisfaction.
