Title

Kevin Howes, a Grammy-nominated producer, DJ, and journalist (aka Sipreano, Voluntary In Nature), compiled, sequenced, and annotated this album in partnership with Light in the Attic.

In the late 1960s, Canada’s largest city saw a musical boom as Caribbean immigrants made Toronto their new home. The finest ska, rocksteady, and reggae recording artists of the era, originating from Studio One, Treasure Isle, and Trojan Records, simply did what came naturally to them. They hit the studio one by one and captured some of the toughest tunes this side of Kingston, breaking down racial and cultural barriers to form an unprecedented and little-known Canadian reggae community.

Jamaica to Toronto: Soul, Funk, and Reggae 1967-1974 details this crucial sonic migration, featuring artists such as "Jackie Mittoo," "Johnnie Osbourne," "Wayne McGhie," "Lloyd Delpratt," "The Mighty Pope," "Jo-Jo Bennett," "Eddie Spencer," "Noel Ellis," and more.

This 2024 expanded edition includes a 20-page deluxe booklet with archival images, artist bios, and essays. The 2xLP set is cut at 45 rpm and housed in a deluxe gatefold sleeve.
