At Bristol's historic jazz pub 'The Old Duke', local musicians Paul Archibald & Joseph Trudgeon recorded eight bands on 30/11/25 & 01/12/25 at Bristol's historic Old Duke pub. This two-day festival collected musicians and bands together to recreate something quite historic...
These live recordings, over the two days, are complied onto this live album that is available, in limited quantity, to download digitally, and purchase on vinyl record.
"Why 'volume 2'?"
In 1979, 'Jazz at the Duke' did exactly what we are trying to do now -- A vinyl record was released featuring bands that represented Bristol's classic jazz scene at the time; local musicians & bands that helped cement the Old Duke's reputation. This vinyl record, as pictured in this campaign, can still be found occasionally in local charity shops, for those who are lucky enough to find it... (it's also hung on the wall of the pub if you look closely!). The iconic album cover of musicians crowded out the front of the pub shows a vibrant scene that still exists today.
...Some of the bands featured on the 1979 vinyl record still play today, and we are lucky enough to be able to feature several of the musicians on the original album on this new venture. We aim to present a continued legacy; an overlap of musicians who played 46 years ago alongside new bands and musicians who continue to play music from the era that gave the pub its name.
We have recreated the iconic photograph taken outside the pub for the 1979 record - original and new musicians present, with all their instruments.
Profits from this record go towards Bristol Jazz & Blues Festival - we are committed to these sales as a non-profit venture.
