Jealous opens with a field recording made by Fly in the early 1990s, capturing the talking alarm system of his prized 1978 Cadillac Coup DeVille as it warns would-be carjackers to “move away from the vehicle” – a moment that would later inspire the album’s title. One of the foundational figures of Memphis rap, Spanish Fly helped define the city’s raw, bass-heavy sound long before it spread across the globe. Built from eerie synths, booming 808s and DIY production, Jealous / Git Buck captures the hypnotic street energy that made his homemade tapes legendary throughout the South.
