Twelve rare '70s and '80s jazz tracks from the French West Indies - the islands of Guadeloupe and Martinique. A great collection for jazz heads and fans of the Tropical music movement. 'Kouté Jazz' is the follow up to the critically acclaimed 'Freedom Jazz France' album, again compiled by French vinyl expert Digger's Digest. The LP version is pressed on 180g vinyl. During the 1970s and 1980s in the French Antilles, as in Paris, there was a return to roots music as well as free jazz, produced by a group of musicians who experimented with all possible genres, listening to a lot of funk and soul, as well as psychedelic and folk music. They mixed these influences this with traditional Antillean music. The tracks selected include the feverish jazz funk of "Samba Arawak" by Guadeloup Reflexions, a composition in honor of the island's first inhabitants. Camille Soprann Hildevert offers us a totally new take on Sydney Bechet's ever fresh "Petite Fleur". Plus there's stunning soul jazz in the form of Marcel-Louis Joseph (A.K.A Ti Marcel)'s "Prière Au Soleil".
