Land of Talk returns with their sixth album, Lasts. After feeling worn down by the music industry and worrying about their aging parents, Lizzie Powell found songs slowly taking shape from everyday sounds. “Life can become so unbearable, and music is where I go to metabolize it,” they explain.

Full of double meanings, Lasts holds both resilience and finality. Haunted by climate collapse, political upheaval and genocide, it turns toward smaller, humane depictions of suffering and grief, shaped by Powell’s reflections on their parents’ illness, mortality, gratitude and rage.

Recorded in a cabin in Harrington, Quebec, with drummer Michael Belyea and guitarist, bassist and engineer Michael Feuerstack, the album is lean, intimate and unguarded. Across eight songs, Powell addresses abuse in the music industry, identity and survival, calling the record “a love letter to life”.
