Title

Tool's Lateralus is their third studio album, originally released on May 15, 2001. By this point in their career, Tool had moved beyond their earlier sub-three-minute songs with straightforward lyrics, such as their 1992 hit "Hush."

On Lateralus, the nine-and-a-half-minute title track is a standout piece that is based on the Fibonacci sequence of numbers. This sequence describes many of nature's spiraling shapes, from ferns to pine cones. Despite the album's musical complexity, abstract themes, and tribute to the band's love for King Crimson, Lateralus debuted at Number One on the charts.

This success propelled Tool into larger venues, including amphitheaters and arenas, solidifying their status as a powerhouse in the music industry.
