Lee Scratch Perry Presents Soulful I - The Jamaican Singles 1969-1970

Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry presents Boss reggae productions in this collection. An abundance of rare tracks and alternate takes are featured in this follow-up to the popular ‘People Funny Boy’ collection.

After his explosive start as an independent record producer with the hit ‘People Funny Boy’, Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry continued to make his mark on Jamaica’s music scene. His singles on the Upsetter label topped the local charts in 1968 and beyond. His work was also released in Britain by Trojan Records, attracting Jamaican ex-pats and the growing ‘skinhead’ reggae fan base.

Soulful I picks up where the previous collection left off, gathering Perry’s Jamaican 7” singles from 1969 to early 1970. This 2CD set also includes rarities from that period, unearthed from the Trojan archives. Together with ‘Clint Eastwood & The Many Moods Of The Upsetter’, this collection offers insight into reggae’s evolution and the genius of its creator during a pivotal era.
