Legacy Recordings celebrate Elvis Presley’s 1969 run at The International Hotel in Las Vegas with a box set fit for a king. Live 1969 is an 11-CD set that boasts newly mixed and mastered versions of the King of Rock and Roll’s legendary return to the stage.
Following his 1968 comeback on NBC, Presley had a hankering to perform live again. As he remembered, “I missed the closeness of a live audience. So just as soon as I got out of the movie contracts, I started to do live performances again.” So, he began the first of many residencies at Las Vegas’ International Hotel, performing several shows a day for enraptured audiences. Elvis was armed with fresh material, including the hit singles In the Ghetto and Suspicious Minds. Backing him up were a fantastic group of musicians eventually dubbed The TCB Band, a full orchestra, and two vocal groups: The Imperials and The Sweet Inspirations. With the unbeatable band and a renewed energy for playing for audiences, Presley ushered in a new era of his career full of energetic performances and setlists drawing from his back catalogue, his current hits, and a number of exciting cover versions.
All the exhilarating performances that Elvis and the band put on from August 21 to August 26, 1969 are accounted for on Legacy’s new box set. Some of the concerts have been previously issued in the last decade on various collections and box sets. But Live1969 also features never-before-released complete performances, including the Midnight Shows on August 22 and 24, 1969, as well as the Dinner Show from August 25. Every performance has been newly remixed and remastered for the all-encompassing box set.
Complementing the comprehensive audio program will be a 52-page book filled with rare photographs, memorabilia, and an oral history compiled by Ken Sharp featuring the recollections of Presley, Col. Tom Parker, Tom Jones, Jerry Schilling, James Burton, Cissy Houston, Terry Blackwood, George Klein, Fats Domino and others. In all, it's the most comprehensive look at this chapter of Elvis Presley’s storied career – a triumphant return that features The King in top form throughout.
