Pianist, composer and bandleader Taylor's originality reshaped twentieth-century music, though his methodologies and language remain largely unassimilated by the twenty-first-century jazz mainstream and its institutions.

Recorded on November 20, 1979, during a rare American West tour, this reconstituted Cecil Taylor Unit features Ramsey Ameen, Jimmy Lyons, Alan Silva and debuting drummer Jerome Cooper. In Albuquerque, this line-up delivered a concert as unique as its instrumentation suggests, with dynamics, textures and interactions distinct from Taylor's 1978 bands.
