The players were all born after the mid-70s - fusion's golden age - but their modern, hip hop-inflected funk has rich echoes of Return To Forever and early Earth Wind And Fire. There's a massive buzz around this from within US jazz's rejuvenated core. It's the sound of a band on the verge of a brilliant future.
