Lo Amiti is the upcoming sophomore album from Haifa-born artist Guy Offenbach, a coming-of-age record shaped by memory, distance and the feeling that the past can turn strangely unreal. Named after the Hebrew phrase for “unreal” or “fake,” it returns to the city of youth to face old ghosts and blurred, cinematic fictions.
The songs move between dry, post-secure irony and real emotional weight, tracing modern routine, loss, isolation and longing. Haifa runs through the whole record as a central character, with its coastal humidity, concrete steps, imaginary love stories and recurring heartbreak giving the album its atmosphere.
Recorded entirely analog on a dusty four-track tape machine in a dark room in Haifa’s Hadar neighborhood, Lo Amiti draws on 1950s pop, abstract surf rock and lo-fi ambient post-punk. You can hear Joe Meek’s space-age studio touch, slow-dance doo-wop, wet spring reverb and echoes of Charlie Megira and Israel’s old-school underground.
