MFSB (Mother Father Sister Brother) were the house band for Philadelphia International and worked closely with the production team of Gamble and Huff. They backed up groups such as Harold Melvin and The Blue Notes, the O’Jays, the Stylistics, the Spinners, Wilson Picket and Billy Paul.
MFSB’s second album Love Is The Message was released in 1974 and reached R&B #1 and Pop #4.
’T.S.O.P. (The Sound of Philadelphia)’ is probably known to most as the theme from Soul Train. It was a massive hit, featuring the Three Degrees, reaching R&B #1, Pop #1 and UK #22. It sold over one million copies.
The Single Version of ‘Love Is The Message’, also featuring The Three Degrees, reached R&B #42 and Pop #85. It has also been sampled by the likes of EPMD and LL Cool J.
