Like North Mississippi Allstars, Memphis-based Lucero successfully combines punk-rock and geographic roots with an authenticity few other bands are able to manage. This self-titled album was released in 2001 and includes such popular tracks as My Best Girl, Raising Hell, Drink 'Til We're Gone and All Sewn Up. Like the great river that flows through Memphis, Tennessee, the music of Lucero keeps rolling on, twisting and turning through the years, the same dark and brooding steadiness always at work. Since forming in late the '90s, this group of Memphis road-dogs has mixed heartfelt lyrics with the sounds of early rock and roll, classic punk, country-folk, and deep-fried Southern soul.
