Maggots: Original Artyfacts From the First Finnish Death Metal Era Part II


Part II of the Maggots box set series heads straight back to the core of the Finnish death metal underground. This chapter gathers Xysma, Funebre and Interment, following the first series that originally wrapped in 1992.

There’s history in every groove here. Thanks to Steve O’Bannon of Seraphic Decay Records, Xysma’s 1990 Fata Morgana 7” returns with its groovy, doomy, chaotic grindcore and ragged rock energy intact. Funebre’s 1990 Brainspoon 7”, first issued by Germany’s The Whisper In Darkness, gets its first ever reissue.

Interment from Paimio round it out with 1991’s Life Here After, originally released by Comeback Records. With one demo and one 7” to their name, they left behind a dark, psychedelic link between Xysma’s grind and Funebre’s death metal riffing. Rotten on the surface, timeless at the core.
