Mandrake Root (A Tribute To Jon)

After the sell-out impact of Soul Drums, the Steve White Trio return with a special 7” single, taking on Deep Purple’s Mandrake Root. It’s a fitting tribute to Jon Lord, driven by a Hammond-heavy groove and showing Steve White’s range and power behind the kit.

On the flip, Sunburn brings an original from Joel White and Chris Hague, who complete this sharp trio. Soul Drums launched Acid Jazz’s new Jazz Sessions series earlier this year and was, remarkably, the first album released under Steve White’s own name.

With a storied session career and a deep connection to Paul Weller, from The Style Council to Weller’s solo band on Wildwood, Stanley Road, Heavy Soul and As Is Now, the Trio finds Steve White returning to his jazz and filmic influences with a true modernist touch.
