Koen Holtkamp has spent more than two decades shaping ambient, experimental, and electroacoustic music, from Mountains to a solo catalogue rooted in texture and space. On Nightlife, a move from Brooklyn to New York’s Hudson Valley opens up a slower, more exploratory mode.

Built through late-night sessions, the record grew from modular experiments using physical modelling to emulate plucked strings, drawing on guitar soli, the kora, and other chordophones. The result is electronic music that feels tactile, intimate, and full of air.

Holtkamp imagined the album as an ensemble, with key contributions from Greg Fox, Matt Bauder, and guest Ben Vida. Acoustic and electronic elements sit in distinct spaces, creating a rich, fluid set of environments that feels both otherworldly and natural.
