Nothing Space Music

Maya Ongaku have always chased what sits just beyond perception. Formed in the seaside towns around Enoshima, the trio work through 自然発生 (shizen hassei), or spontaneous occurrence, letting songs and ideas arrive on instinct. Nothing Space Music feels like the clearest expression of that approach yet.

Written after several years of international touring, the album grew from a need to reconnect with silence. As the stages got bigger and everything around them sped up, Maya Ongaku turned toward quieter spaces and the deeper idea of “Nothing Space”.

To make the record, the band built a new setting near a seaside shrine in their hometown, transforming a large soundproof building into Nothing Space Studio. The result is Nothing Space Music, a thoughtful meditation on presence, perception, and hearing the world anew through close listening.
