Philly Groove Records was one of the most culturally significant record companies of the classic soul era. Founded in 1967 by Stan Watson and home to the Delfonics and First Choice, Philly Groove was instrumental in establishing the famed Philadelphia soul sound, with its lush instrumental arrangements and funk influences. That soul sound is beautifully highlighted on this vinyl collection, which features rare songs by the Delfonics, the Crusaders, Billy Bass, and the New Concept, as well as unreleased tracks from First Choice (“Nobody Knows” and a cover of “Midnight Train to Georgia”).
