Pollen is the sixth album by the band Tennis. Alania Moore, one half of Tennis, reflects on the process of creating the album, exploring melodies that push her vocal boundaries and delving into themes of vulnerability and introspection.
As the album took shape, Moore and her bandmate Patrick focused on creating a big sound while eschewing conventional pop structures. The result is an album filled with personal details and a sense of fragility, encapsulated in the title Pollen.
Tennis, comprised of Alania Moore and Patrick Riley, met in college before embarking on a musical journey that led them to the Denver music scene. Despite early success with record deals and mainstream recognition, the duo chose to take control of their career by forming their own label, Mutually Detrimental.
Their previous album, Yours Conditionally, was a commercial hit, showcasing their unique sound and DIY ethos. With Swimmer, their follow-up album, Tennis continued to produce music on their own terms, drawing on their experiences and influences to create standout tracks like "Need Your Love" and "Runner."
