Repetition Complulsion

With their third studio album, Repetition Compulsion, Black Doldrums complete the interconnected “State of Mind Trilogy” — a three-album run exploring the psychological forces that shape identity, memory and human connection. It began with 2022’s Dead Awake and continued with 2024’s In Limerence.

Drawing from 80s gothic post-punk, synth-pop and darkwave, the London trio also tap into the atmospheric film scores of John Carpenter and Vangelis. Those touchstones are here, but Black Doldrums push them somewhere cinematic, modern and very much their own.

Rich in detail, artistic ambition and emotional weight, Repetition Compulsion feels like Black Doldrums at their most complete and fully realised to date.
