Raised under Sardinia’s fierce sun, Vieri Mura has spent years travelling north to visit the celebrated singer Maria Teresa Pirrigheddu (b. 1942). What started as musical curiosity grew into something deeper, and Rundinas captures that bond alongside the island’s sound and the pulse of Maria Teresa’s everyday life.

Recorded on portable devices, this is intimate and beautifully direct. Maria Teresa sings orally transmitted cantos a chiterra over Vieri’s sparse guitar on Side A, recorded in her garden, and organ on Side B, recorded in the church just steps from her home.

Swallows move through the record like markers of passing seasons and fleeting youth. Now 84, Maria Teresa sings with a voice that’s still agile, now shaded by age, bringing fresh weight and feeling to chants that reach back hundreds of years.
