Saci Hacs

Almost precisely three years since the release of Dollar Lizard Money Zombie, HMS Morris return with their fourth studio album Saci Hacs. 

Recorded between the band’s home in Cardiff and an underground garage in Johnstown, Saci Hacs is an enigmatic sack of peculiar hacks. Some actually useful, most absurd, all containing a kernel of joy.

The album explores the small systems and personal rituals that the songwriters have invented or discovered to help them survive modern life: hacks to filter out the bullshit, to avoid self-doubt, to channel feminine rage into positive action. All very useful and wise, but do not mistake Saci Hacs for an endorsement of ultra-productivity, process-optimization and peak performance-chasing. The implication of HMSM’s messy, baroque life-lessons is that there are no one-size-fits- all solutions; all we can really offer our fellow-travellers is encouragement, levity and occasional moments of pure delight.

Musically, the album is an exercise in free play. There are no discernible genre-restrictions in evidence as the band continue to evolve their distinctive blend of real instruments and electronica, combining playful orchestration with warped textures, dramatic melodies and joyful.
