In 1973/74, Herbert von Karajan took an innovative step and recorded orchestral pieces by Arnold Schoenberg, Anton Webern and Alban Berg together with the Berliner Philharmoniker - all three representatives of the Second Viennese School. The results were groundbreaking recordings of the Second Viennese School, presented in a sophisticated 4-LP box set designed by renowned graphic designer Holger Matthies
All recordings have been newly mastered from the original 4- and 8-track tapes and mixed by Rainer Maillard and Sidney C. Meyer from Emil Berliner Studios

Housed in a rigid slipcase, each recording is presented in a deluxe gatefold with original artwork and additional photos and facsimiles of the recording documentation on the inner sleeve
Each gatefold also includes a note by Rainer Maillard and Sidney C. Meyer/EBS detailing the technical background and procedure of the Original Source Series and facsimile of the original tape carton box.
