Unlike Scott 4's sparing concessions to the mainstream with its 4/4 drum kits and occasional pop choruses, 'Scott 3' is perhaps the perfect example of defiant non-compromise in song-writing and performance by a (then) mainstream 'star'. When you consider that Walker had been atop singles charts and inside teen idol mags a mere eighteen months before this release, the combination of bleak lyrical themes of alienation together with symphonic, often waltz-metered, soundscapes presented here is astonishing even before any analysis of worth.
