injured birds emerge from nottingham's flourishing indie-folk scene. the sound of injured birds, however, could easily have been born from a wood cabin in the darkest, deepest american forest. perhaps a very welcome result of injured birds recent days on the road touring the usa's midwestern highways and venues. while comparisons seem wrong when injured birds are offering something of a unique sound, it can't be ignored that they share a little something of bon iver's earthy, fragile beauty. in both frontman sam kirk's forlorn lyricism and heartbreaking falsetto vocal, the latter having been described by james yuill as a 'beautiful sonic syrup'. the music too is one of simplistic heart-wrenching strings, harmonium piano and adept acoustic guitar plucking. 'silver birches' is released on denizen recordings (a recent huw stephens 'label of love').
