Sphere to Sphere

Zyggurat is Pete Grimshaw's experimental jazz project, in this iteration featuring him on synths and Nathan England-Jones on percussion. Formed in Birmingham, Zuggurat has over 8 years of cosmic electronic wrangling under it's belt. Releases and live shows have featured a charmingly eclectic range of collaborators ranging from tap dancers to sax/flute players, taking in the accordion along the way, with the lyrical drumming of England-Jones the constant and steady accompaniment.

Recorded over two sweltering hot days in and around a small tin chapel deep in the woods in Shropshire, the seven tracks represent a significant step up in Zyggurat's game. Ranging from found harmonium sounds and the chirping of the woods, through to extended jams, the overall approach remains psychedelic improvisation, but the fluidity and openness are breathtaking - stretching but not quite breaking the definition of jazz.
