Spin Off

The 7:45s are a Manchester soul collective led by songwriter and bassist Sam Flynn. Taking cues from the great house bands of Motown through to Big Crown, they build sharp, 7-inch-sized singles with a rare groove feel and a real pop instinct, bringing in standout voices like Martin Connor and Nicole Battick.

Spin Off goes beyond being a deluxe album, expanding the retro-soul love story first heard on their acclaimed debut, Spinning. It follows an on-off relationship through its featured vocalists, with Nicole Battick, Martin Connor and Yemi Bolatiwa each taking a turn at the mic.

There’s the soul ballad I Will Be There for You, the reworked funk of (I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction, and the Rick James-inspired disco original You’ll Never Love a Girl. Along the way, The 7:45s have picked up plays from Craig Charles, Stuart Maconie and Chris Hawkins on BBC Radio 6 Music, plus Simon Phillips on Jazz FM.
