The Blanche Hudson Weekend existed for just 4 years....or, to be more accurate, 3 years and 7 months...before deciding they had achieved everything they'd wanted to achieve, and splitting up. The release of their quite epic 2nd album, How Many Times Have You Let Me Die? had succeeded in capturing what the band was all about, with a collection of some of the best songs they'd ever recorded. So, a perfect time to quit while they were ahead. The Blanche Hudson Weekend started out in late 2009, when Caroline and Darren were still licking their wounds, following the break-up of The Manhattan Love Suicides, in July of that year. The Blanche Hudson Weekend's very first recordings were an almost identikit version of The Manhattan Love Suicides' ultra fuzzed-up, lo-fi musical approach. But, slowly, over the next few months, The Blanche Hudson Weekend came together as a "proper" band - adding Chris, Sasha, Lee, Matt, and occasionally, Pete to the line-up. By early 2010, they were ready to start playing gigs. Over the next few years, they recorded and released two full length albums, five 7" singles, one CD single and a 17 track compilation of single tracks and exclusive recordings. All of these were released on Squirrel Records and Odd Box Records. Most of these are now sold out and deleted. Which brings us neatly to this limited edition compilation CD, Standing On The Lift To The Scaffold, which gathers together 21 of the very best tracks by The Blanche Hudson Weekend, and serves them all up in beautiful DVD style packaging with card inserts and artwork by Jon Aldersea / Goldphone Creative Media. It's the perfect release for anyone wishing to have a whole bunch of Blanche Hudson Weekend tracks in one place, as well as for those of you reading this who never got into the band to begin with. Some would say a criminally under-appreciated band...and we would certainly be among those people who would say that. From ultra lo-fi fuzz pop to relatively glossy synthpop, but always with a healthy blast of guitar noise cutting through whatever they did..........oh, you just know what you now have to do.
