stickers is the debut album from boxes - a solo project with athlete's carey willets at the fore. willets fuses melodic hooks, light handed indie rock and classical instrumentation with touches of electronic into a reassuringly radio-ready sound. this is pensive, steely edged pop balanced with fresh, emotively open melody that never misses the mark. unsurprisingly so: willets is a man who knows a hook when he hears one. stickers shares the atmospheric, sonic sparseness with its front man's prior popular works. however, unlike athlete, this record manages to open out the morose and lift those often shadowy moods with playful instrumentation, uplifting lyrical content and rousing melody.
