This is the first full-length release from South Korea’s beloved pansori psych-pop band Leenalchi to be available worldwide, and it’s a brilliant introduction to their singular sound.

Led by composer Jang Young-Gyu, the group blends tradition and experiment with real ease. You’ll likely know his work from scores for The Wailing, Train to Busan, and The Good, The Bad, The Weird.

Sugungga feels like animals talking to each other over tripped-out bass lines. The album takes its name from an old Korean folk tale about a clever, loyal turtle trying to lure a rabbit underwater to the Dragon King, whose illness can only be cured by the rabbit’s liver.
