Sun Drums

liverpool three piece sun drums have tapped into a very modern stream of blissed out melancholia on their debut eponymous ep. while obviously well versed in the now classics of deep emotional electronica (think burial, caribou) the trio offer the tantalising prospect of a band addressing universal issues of the heart underneath the studio manipulation. swirling, shimmering reverbs and waves of chords swoop in from left-of-stage, loops are triggered and build into spires of crystal but the group aren't afraid of the big reveal - 'nocturnum' begins as a heartfelt ballad before being graced with lush synth work and sequenced instrumentation. elsewhere on the ep the listeners perception is threatened with sensual obliteration, only to be pulled back to earth at the last moment. beautiful stuff.
