The long-awaited reissue of Sunday At Devil Dirt brings back the second full-length collaboration between Isobel Campbell and Mark Lanegan. Recorded between studios in the Catskills and Campbell's native Glasgow, it pairs her writing, production and arrangements with Lanegan's lead vocals.
A former Belle and Sebastian member, Campbell meets the Screaming Trees frontman and part-time QOTSA vocalist in a set of dust-bitten ballads and troubled wanderings. The two complement each other beautifully, moving through Alt-Country, Folk and Blues with real ease.
Alongside the rich seam first explored on their debut, Sunday At Devil Dirt leans into a dusty Southern Gothic mood, with a sultry, jazzy feel running through several tracks. It is an easy equal to its predecessor and a quietly gripping listen throughout.
