Swilkie

Iona Lane presents Swilkie, her latest album that intertwines ecology, conservation, islands, and folklore into poetic songs and contemplative melodies. The album was crafted during residencies on the Isle of Eigg, Isle of Mull, and Sanday in Orkney, capturing the essence of the landscapes and surroundings in each song.

From songs like "basking sharks" to "lighthouses," "lichen" to vanishing islands, and "curlews" to tree planting, Swilkie explores a wide range of themes with a deep connection to the sea. The album was recorded in a boathouse on the West Coast of Scotland, allowing the natural sounds of the environment to subtly weave through the music.

Joining Iona on this musical journey are talented musicians such as Ben Nicholls on double bass, Louis Campbell on guitars/banjo, Malin Lewis on fiddle/pipes, Signy Jakobsdottir on drums/percussion, Jen Austin on piano, Alex Lyon on bass clarinet/clarinet, and backing vocals by Jenny Sturgeon, Josie Duncan, and Michael McGovern.

Swilkie also includes a second disc of location recordings, offering a glimpse into the inspiration behind the music. Featuring fellow musicians and friends like Hannah Fisher, Jen Austin, Terra Burgoyne, Lachie Robinson, and Bess Shooter, these tracks add depth to the creative process.
