Tellin' It

The first vinyl pressing in half a century of Ann Peebles' 1975 album Tellin' It, fully remastered after decades untouched in the Hi Records vault.

Peebles was at the height of her powers here, arriving after her biggest hit, I Can't Stand the Rain. Produced by Willie Mitchell at Royal Studios in Memphis, it carries that deep Hi groove, with Howard Grimes on drums and the Memphis Horns in full flow.

As Andy Beta wrote for Bandcamp: “Peebles and Mitchell don't just recast Rain 10 different times—instead, they lean into the supple support laid down by the Hi Rhythm Section, who have plenty more uptempo grooves to offer.”

The original master tapes were first heard again in fifty years by John Nicholson at Nashville Tape Transfer, then remastered by Clay Jones in Taylor, MS. Lacquers were cut in Memphis by Jeff Powell at Take Out Vinyl, with plating and pressing at Memphis Record Pressing.
