That Crooked White Line

Mick Hampshire has been making noise since 1981, from a boat on the River Medway and across groups including Mickey & The Milkshakes, The/Thee Milkshakes, The Delmonas, Micky & the Salty Sea Dogs, Mickey and Ludella and, since 1991, The Masonics.

The Milkshakes were brilliantly prolific, with songs by Mick Hampshire and Billy Childish, drums from Bruce Brand, and bass from Mark Gilbert, John Gawen and Russell Wilkins. The Delmonas featured Mick’s longtime partner and collaborator Miss Ludella Black.

Here, Mick Hampshire plays and sings with only his unamplified Grimshaw semi-acoustic guitar. Recording was handled by longtime friends Kevin Younger at his back room and Jim Riley at Ranscombe Studios, Rochester. Four years after the last long player, this 14-song set keeps moving.
