Thunder’s three studio albums for EMI, along with a collection of bonus tracks, single cuts, and B-sides, are all included in this comprehensive package. Live recordings from The Town And Country Club and their Monsters Of Rock Donington debut are also featured.
Formed at the start of 1989 from the core of Terraplane, guitarist and songwriter Luke Morley, singer Danny Bowes, and drummer Gary “Harry” James were joined by Ben Matthews on guitar and keyboards and Mark ‘Snake’ Luckhurst on bass for their debut album.
Produced by Duran Duran’s Andy Taylor for EMI, Backstreet Symphony (CD1) was released in 1990 and featured five chart singles, leading to their opening of the 1990 Monsters Of Rock festival, which is captured in its entirety on CD3.
Their fan base and reputation grew with the release of Laughing On Judgement Day (CD4) in 1992, their second consecutive gold album. This album included the singles ‘Low Life in High Places’, ‘Everybody Wants Her’, ‘A Better Man’, and ‘Like a Satellite’, reaching No.2 in the UK album charts.
By the time their third record, Behind Closed Doors (CD6), was released in 1995, bassist ‘Snake’ Luckhurst had been replaced by Mikael Höglund. Another hit album, ‘Behind Closed Doors’ featured the singles ‘Stand Up’, ‘River Of Pain’, and ‘Castles In the Sand’.
In 1996, Thunder left EMI, leaving behind a legacy of three classic albums and a collection of great singles. In addition to their hit singles, fans were treated to non-album songs and alternative versions, including tracks like ‘Until The Night Is Through (Dance Dance Dance)’, ‘I Can Still Hear The Music’, and ‘No Way Out Of The Wilderness’ from ‘Backstreet Symphony’; ‘She's My Inspiration’, ‘With A Little Help From My Friends’, ‘Bigger Than Both Of Us’, and ‘Dangerous Rhythm’ from ‘Laughing On Judgement Day’; and ‘One Pretty Woman’, ‘The Fire Is Gone’, and ‘Life In A Day’ from ‘Behind Closed Doors’.
