The Electrifying Eddie Harris

Remastered using pure analogue components only, from the master tapes through to the cutting head.

Composer, tenor saxophonist and keyboarder Eddie Harris (1934–1996) was a pioneer of instrumental innovation. His first jazz album, Exodus To Jazz, attained gold status, while the later Swiss Movement (Atlantic SD-1537), recorded with Les McCann, became one of the best-selling albums in jazz history.

After moving to Atlantic in 1965, Harris began experimenting with electric piano and saxophone, with the latter foregrounded on 1967’s The Electrifying Eddie Harris. The album showcases his electronic Varitone saxophone on Theme In Search Of A Movie and his hit version of Listen Here. The rhythm section of Jodie Christian, Melvin Jackson and Richard Smith underpins highlights including Sham Time, Judie’s Theme, I Don’t Want No One But You and the lengthy Spanish Bull.
