With his trademark red Gretsch, quietly charismatic demeanour, movie star's good looks and instantly-identifiable, 'twangy' playing style, Duane Eddy became Rock'n'Roll's first major instro icon. The prototype guitar hero, he introduced an entirely new sound to R&R by plucking dramatic, single-string lead melodies on the lower, bass strings of his axe, and making liberal use of the 'bendy' effect afforded by the (then, relatively-new) whammy bar.
And with his echo-drenched 45rpms, with their signature saxes and whooping rebel yells, Duane was innovative and almost immeasurably influential.
This compilation of classic Duane tracks is drawn from EPs issued in the US, the UK, West Germany, France and Sweden between 1958-62. Features an eclectic mix of hits, B-sides, and album tracks (NB:as this isn't intended to be a "Best Of" set, only a representative sample of his hits are included).
