Title

The band Honig – yes, you can now call them a band, but more on that later – tells the story of a great friendship and a commitment to passion. The new and fourth Honig album The Last Thing The World Needs is characterized by a light-hearted, melodious and confident self-image in a dreamlike, arousing way. The essential feature of great art (in that you don't hear the hard work behind it) has been internalized by Honig. The haunting track Avalanche opens an album which casts its spell and then holds you in an elegiac daydream. Honig creates clear, Californian-inspired indie pop, sometimes reminiscent of R.E.M., Tom Petty, Crowded House or Conor Oberst. Slow songs like The Polyester Road or the tenderly dabbed ballad It's Never The Wrong Time To Sleep with its playful piano passages are similarly, tastefully arranged like songs we know from the big indie ensembles of our day such as The Arcade Fire, The Polyphonic Spree or Okkervil River. But let's take a break from comparisons. More than anything else, The Last Thing The World Needs is permeated by the outstanding ability of the singer Stefan Honig to always find the right intonation and the right timbre for every emotional expression alternating from confidence to doubt, and emphasis to despondency.
